Hooked on Banjo
Another successful year at the Bantry Fleadh 2016 which hosted workshops and concerts featuring  Traditional Music and Song Master Classes, under the guidance of some of Irelands leading Traditional Musicians Cathal Hayden, Stephen Hayden (Fiddles), Donal Murphy (Accordion), Seamie O’Dowd (Guitar), Brian McGrath (Banjo), Brendan Mulholland (Whistle & Flute), Eamon Murray (Bodhran) & Sean Keane (Traditional Singing). Most importantly for tenor banjo enthusiasts we saw the launch of the eagerly awaited ‘Hooked on Banjo’ CD by Cathal Hayden & Friends. As soon as I get a link where to purchase the CD I’ll add it in. hook007cathalhayden cathal_1
Summer of Irish Music
Is your banjo sounding like it should. Banjos will need a periodic set-up to keep them playing at their best. If you can’t carry out this work yourself then this is what I do best. Just drop me a quick email and I can arrange a time slot to setup your banjo. Typical setups will include
  • disassembly for cleaning & reassembly including resetting/replacing the head
  • Changing strings
  • Action height
  • Bridge slots
  • Nut slots
  • Fret condition
  • Tailpiece position/condition
  • Loose hardware
If you are on the look out for some different I have a few vintage tenor banjos for sale. I may also be interested in trade-ins against a vintage banjo I have for sale, click on the photo orpheum_custom_04

Tenor Banjo Workshop With Stevie Dunne.

The very talented Stevie Dunne shared his banjo style techniques to a full capacity of inspired banjo enthusiasts at the Belfast Trad Banjo workshop last Saturday afternoon. Great tunes & tips to take with us after 4 hours of pure banjo mastery….cheers Stevie   Each year the Belfast Trad Society host a banjo workshop among others held at the crescent arts centre. This year we hosted Stevie Dunne who’s style and repertoire are strongly influenced by Ulster role models such as Cathal Hayden, Martin Hayes and Josephine Keegan. As a follow up to the class I have included some audio samples and video recordings from the workshop, many thanks to Phil and Kevin for that.
