1921 Paramount Leader Tenor Banjo

Very rare 1921 Paramount Style ‘Leader’ 19 fret tenor banjo in very good condition. This was one of the first run of Paramounts to leave the new factory back in 1921 making this banjo 96 years old. The ‘Leader model’ was made from either quality Brazilian or Indian rosewood, I have seen both wood versions and they look very similar. The resonator is decorated with maple /pearwood centre stripe and outer circle rings, 5 piece Brazilian rosewood / maple neck, with checkerboard trim under the bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Headstock overlay features logo, model and floral inlays, Leader style inlay pattern up the fretboard, 19 frets which are in good condition with plenty of bite left, 24 brackets, round hole flange, raised arch-top tone ring, Paramount swivel lock tailpiece, armrest, original paramount brass/nickel plated geared tuners (the best type).  Comes with black leatherette hard shell vintage case finished with inner green velvet and single box pocket. The banjo has been very well cared for throughout its lifetime and has been owned by a professional jazz player. It has low action and a straight neck and has a powerful but sweet sustain from the arch-top tone ring and newly fitted Remo Renaissance head * (SN:1177) The Paramount Leader is the model above the style C SOLD
