The Prelude Polka (Andy Reids Polka)

This is a great beginner polka that helps you familiarise the notes on the fretboard. This will also help your  muscle memory to play banjo without looking where your fingers are placed. I first discovered the tune watching a series sometime ago around 2010 which featured Irish banjoist Gerry O’Connor from Kildare and footballer Andy Reid. The programme followed various musicians who’s task was to teach a celebrity one tune on their prospective instrument, then the celebrity was to perform the tune. This was filmed over 3 episodes which I’ve added to the bottom of the page. Give yourself a break from playing and watch the mini series, it’s very entertaining.
